No more bailouts: Privatize the Post Office and Amtrak

It is high time that we change the constitution and allow the free market to take over our mail services. I do not understand how a company that has a monopoly in the market cannot seem to make a profit. The Post Office lost $2.8 billion in 2008 while the Post Master General raked in $263.575 last year with a “BONUS” of $135,000. Why did John E. Potter receive pay raises of 40 percent since 2006 and the bonus when his company is failing. Where is the phony outrage from our leaders in Congress? Where is the 90% tax on Mr. Potter’s bonus?

There is one factor in the Post Office not making a profit and that would be unions. It seems that any industry with a large presence of union thugs seems to have a hard time of making a profit. Airlines, Detroit Auto Makers and Amtrak. Amtrak has never made a profit since 1971 when it was created. The Obama Administration now wants the power to take over failing companies and run them into the ground like they have the Post Office and Amtrak. Why do liberals think that the government can successfully run a company when they cannot even run Medicare and Social Security.

It is time to privatize the Post Office and Amtrak and quit dumping billions of taxpayer moneys into the government cesspit. You will not see the liberal controlled congress or White House take any actions to privatize these companies. Union thugs are the liberals puppet master and they will do nothing to upset their applecart. I have a couple friends that work for the Post Office and they say that the US should privatize the agency and lessen the power of the Union thugs. I will not hold my breath!

  1. I cannot for the life of me think of one single instance where a government-run business has or is actually working.

Earlier this year, Bill Maher and his band of very misguided liberals were crucifying a conservative for saying that the government couldn't control health care. In the liberals' infinite wisdom, they both began shouting, "I'd love for health care to operate like the postal service!"

Yes. YOU would love that very much. The patients on the other hand ... not so much.

Casey, or any other reader here, feel free to enlighten me on this issue. I still can't figure out what the government runs correctly.

The post office took a dive! lol The government cannot be allowed to take over health care. What's wrong with people!!! They would rather argue with the other side than admit their way MIGHT NOT WORK!

  2. Josh, The only thing that our government can get somewhat right is fighting wars. With Obama being the new Commander in Chief, I am not so sure that will to continue.

  3. I agree with you there, but I'd it's still the patriotic men and women of America making it work despite a left's insistance on cutting funding and leaving them to slaughter with dwindling numbers. But I'm preaching to the choir on that issue.

Here's hoping that Obama will continue to see that Bush had it right all along (in terms of the war on terror actually needing to be fought) and that the men and women on the ground need to multiply and advance now!
