I was wondering how Reagan and Bush can be compared on equal levels? Do you think the Reagan Revolution is really still intact after Bush' "neocon" movement?
ReplyDeleteI have to say, the most delightful thing here was the "old" Dubya coming out again. Suddenly the strains of the last eight years seem to be dropping away, and the hugely charming, witty and good-humoured Texan gent we fell in love with all those years ago is re-emerging from the times of darkness and war and (largely media-generated) confusion.
ReplyDeleteYes, Bush has made some catastrophic mistakes, but it counts strongly in his favour that there's not a single one of these that his opponents would not have made - and would not have made worse.
And I'm definitely going to be getting that book.
Imagination, You can compare Reagan and 43 on many levels. 1. Tax cuts
ReplyDelete2. Conservative judges 3. Strong Commanders-in-Chief 4. Missile defense 5. Both believed in "American exceptionalism."
I do think President Bush failed when it came to expanding the Federal government. Reagan would have never gone along with the expansion that Bush did. When you read "The Reagan-Revolution Continues" on my page, it does not mean,per se, that Bush was Reagan. Did Bush follow some of the Reagan model? Yes! What the "revolution" banner means is that we need to continue what Reagan started.
Who is that "Reagan" in 2012? I do not know at this time but I surmise we will know about the mid-term elections as the horse race will have began for 2012. There is a good chance there will not be a "Reagan" emerge for the 2012 race . But after the failure called McCain, I don't think the GOP will try that model again. I hope!

Oliver, Thank you for comments and I would agree with everything that you said. I am going to re-print something that I found on the Oak,Ash and Thorn blog and I think that you will appreciate it as much as I did.
