Lou Pritchett's open letter to President Obama

Lou Pritchett is a former vice president of Procter & Gamble whose career at that company spanned 36 years before his retirement in 1989, and he is the author of the 1995 business book, Stop Paddling & Start Rocking the Boat. This open letter was sent to the New York Times but was never acknowledged or published. I think this letter sums up the thinking of many, many Americans. Some in the media are beginning to ask real questions of this administration instead of the softball questions disguised as journalism. The Messiah's halo appears to be dimming a bit.

Mr. Pritchett's letter-

......................................................................................

Dear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America' crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

Lou Pritchett

  3. @Heck, I removed your comments due to the length of the two posts. I encourage differing points of view but please keep it under 1000 words. You are welcome to add a link to your friends letter if you would like. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. You scare me because...

    ...I know nothing about you.
    Read his books!

...I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education...
    * Same way any other middle-class American pays for an expensive Ivy League school. Scholarships and student loans. Duh!

...and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.
    * Huh? No visible signs of support? Obama worked as a lawyer, too. As did his wife? And he wrote a best-selling book.

...you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.
    * Then my immigrant parents must scare you. Then Arnold Schwarzenegger must scare you.

...you have never run a company or met a payroll.
    * Does John McCain scare you?

...you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.
    * Did Ronald Reagan Scare you?

...you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.
    * Huh?

...for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America
    * Just who on earth are you talking about?

...you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America'.
    * Blame America for what?

...you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.
    * And when did Candidate or President Obama ever say any of that?

...because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.
    * And what have you done to fix our corporate controlled system, Mr. Pritchett, where insurance companies drop people as soon as they get sick? (The Republicans are free to offer a better solution. They controlled congress for six years.) BTW, Obama's plan still calls for private insurers.

...you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.
    * And just what is wrong with capitalizing on our vast wind reserves? (Yes, they are vast. Ask any geologist.)

...you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.
    * Didn't they say that about FDR, too?

...you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.
    * Huh? Certain banks and corporations turned the government and begged for a bailout. Duh! Yes, Obama asked the chariman of GM to resign. I'd call that a healthy disincentive to ask for a government bailout.

...your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.
    * This is my favorite! Didn't George Bush's party shrink from challenging him on his wild and irresponsible invasion of Iraq? His irresponsible cutting of taxes during war? Didn't Bush's treasury Secretary Paul O'Neil get fired for objecting to that policy?

...you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.
    * Sorry. Obama has been more open to discussions with political opponents than any politician I've ever seen. But if he hasn't considered your opinions, Mr. Pritchett, perhaps it's because this letter of yours doesn't exactly present you as intelligent or informed.

...you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.
    * Wasn't it George W. Bush who said that God was guiding him?

...the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.
    * Did it scare you when the media gave Bush a free pass on invading Iraq?

...you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Relllys and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.
    * And which one of those have been silenced? Or Demonized? When, exactly did President Obama even mention one of their names? (Obama's too smart to give them free publicity.)

    ...you prefer controlling over governing.
    * Did the patriot act scare you?

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.
    * Give me a break! Obama worked as a civil rights lawyer. He spent his career protecting our civil rights.
